The Passenger Rail Investment and Improvement Act of 2008 was unveiled on May 8. If approved by Congress, it would provide about $US 1.34 billion per year for passenger operator Amtrak's capital needs and $US 606 million a year for operations. It also includes provisions for developing high-speed rail.
