Queensland gets smart
International Railway Journal, Sept, 2005
TRANSLINK, the public transport authority responsible for managing southeast Queensland's major transport operators, has begun the first phase of the rollout of a new integrated ticketing and revenue management system supplied by Cubic Transportation Systems, United States. It is the first smart card system to be introduced in the Australian state.
The first stage of the pilot consists of five Queensland Rail (QR) stations and one private bus operator with a focus group using contactless smart cards to pay for single or dual-mode travel. This phase will be completed at the end of this month, with full rollout starting in 2006. Ultimately, the system will link all public and private bus operators and QR to the one automatic fare collection operation.
