Colt New Service

I was delighted with the Sept. 2004 issue of GUNS magazine when I saw Glen Barnes' article on the Colt New Service revolver. The New Service is my favorite double action revolver.

When I was a small boy, living in New York State, I was very impressed with the N.Y. State Troopers and their big Colt revolvers.

One day a fella, who worked with my father, stopped and showed us his revolver. It was a .45 Colt New Service with a 5 1/2" barrel, the beautiful Colt blue finish and smooth factory ivory grips. I immediately wanted one. It is now 55 or so years later and I still am looking. Maybe it is the fault of my memory but I have never found another New Service that looked that nice. I have several, and really enjoy shooting these big Colts.
