Guns Of The Century - Brief Article

Guns Magazine, Dec, 1999

A historical, retrospective look at the guns we have come to know and - sometimes -- love in the last 100 years.

Fast away the old year passes -- and with it go the last days of the 20th century. For American gun owners this century has been the best of times -- with tremendous developments in firearm design -- and the worst of times -- with ever encroaching gun control threatening our Constitutional freedom.

Now, as we stand on the brink of a new era, GUNS Magazine presents the first in our two-part series, "Guns Of Our Age." This month, our experts take a look back at how firearms have shaped the years between 1900 and 1999. We entered this century shooting the .45 Colt Single Action revolver and the .30-40 Krag-Jorgensen rifle; we leave shooting the Glock 9mm and the .223 M-16. In the following pages, we'll take a look at how history will remember the long, winding road in between.

Then, stand by for the second installment next month, when, in the very first issue of GUNS Magazine in the 21st century, we will peer ahead into the future to see where our heritage of gun ownership is headed during the next 100 years. We are sure you'll find "Guns Of Our Age" both entertaining and enlightening.
