Guns Magazine, Jan, 2009 by Joe Ward

Just got finished reading Clint's article on "Remington's Masterpiece" wherein he rightly discussed the "... limited ammunition capacity ..." of the pump gun. There is a slight offset to the disadvantage, however, as long as you stick with a tubular magazine. Whether in a "sidesaddle" carrier or loose in a jacket pocket, new rounds can be added "on the run" without running the gun dry, opening the action, or changing a detachable magazine. Additionally, if the need arises to switch to a slug, tracer, gas, etc., just shove it in the mag anytime you're not firing, cycle the action, and it's the next one down the tube. I like my Mossberg 500A with "twin action bars" a little better because of the under-the-thumb safety but that's why we don't all like strawberry ice cream.
