Delightful diversion: testing Kimber's new rimfine was a tough job, but someone had to do it

Guns Magazine, March, 2004 by Charles E. Petty

Fresh Perspectives

It is my custom to let shooting buddies try out new test guns. I find it interesting to watch someone else shoot. I call observe the gun's function from an angle and see things I might miss as a shooter. The other interesting thing is to watch their reaction. Usually someone in the group will have a criticism or two, but this time there were none: everybody liked it and there was no shortage of volunteers. Maybe one or two threatened to keep it. There were lots of happy grins.

The Bottom Line

So here's my dilemma: do the "attaboys" outweigh the "awshits?" The perils of writing a detailed report based on a sample of one is that this gun may be the only one with a lousy trigger or missing screw. Still, I feel obligated to report those things.

I am also obligated to report to you that I am purchasing this gun. So often we get wrapped up in technical minutia and overlook the reason most of us shoot anyhow. It's fun! And when the gong rang with the very first shot and the sights never left the target it was one of those "oh goody" moments. It is especially cool to set up a nice rapid fire cadence and be rewarded with a rhythmic series of bang and clang sounds. Maybe I'm getting simple in my dotage or will resume my curmudgeonly ways another day, but for the moment, I sure do love my job.
