Glock goodies

Guns Magazine, March, 2005 by John Connor

Safety stuff? In action locks, you can order many Glock models with their factory key locking system, which includes a condition indicator stud, or, check out the Ghost Block action lock, which uses a standard handcuff key inserted into the rear of the slide--ideal for law enforcement. In fact, the Georgia State Patrol issues the Ghost Block, and it doesn't permanently alter your piece. If your 1911-trained hand just has to have a thumb safety to feel right, either Joe Cominolli or Ten-Ring Precision can slap one on your Glock that John Moses Browning would approve of--and it won't void your warranty.

Another safety item of note is the Saf-T-Blok (see photo). This ingenious little item snaps in behind the Glock trigger and absolutely prevents it from being pulled, but pops right out with a lateral tap of your trigger finger--very natural as you come out of the holster. Joe Dirtbag can squeeze and jerk all day and never bust a cap with the Saf-T-Blok in place, but you can launch it sideways without breakin' your presentation stroke. My Socially Serious Glocks wear 'em all the time.

Sights and Skins

The factory Glock sights are squared, sharp, and good-to-go, but there's a galaxy of great custom choices. I like the AmeriGlo ghostring-and-post sets for battle pistols. The triple tritium dots are just bright enough to reference the sights, and they're about the fastest pick-up sights Fve found. TruGlo's TFO Brite-Site set combines tritium and fiber optics for maximum brightness--perfect for an ATM-to-parking-lot-distance fighting gun. And by the time you read this, Jay Hard at Precision Sights Int. will be ready to fit Glocks with the "gold standard" of 1911 sights: the Novak Extreme Duty Lo-Mount Adjustable. If you know heavy-duty sights, nuff said. Get in line--behind me.

Want to quadruple the effectiveness of your Glock and double its value? Simple. Slap in a Lasermax laser sight as easy as replacing your guide rod, slide lock and slide-lock spring, lf I can do it, you can, I guarantee you. I'm an operator, not an armorer. That quick--five minutes or less--you have a permanently-aligned laser sight you activate by tapping either side of the slide lock. Or, send your pet Black Gun to Crimson Trace Corporation, and they'll machine a solid, adjustable laser-blaster into your frame, parking the batteries and master switch in the hollow of the backstrap. Activation is automatic via a pressure switch when you grip the piece. I've used and abused both flavors extensively over the past several months, experiencing zero failures--and vastly improved low-light accuracy.

For home defense, a light-and-laser combo keeps one hand free and precludes fumbling for your pistol and a tactical light, I've been testing the Streamlight M-6X, and it has sucked up punishment. The M-6X slides and locks on any Glock with frame mils, and center-punches a pool of light with a bright red berry. A dual-toggle switch lets you "blip" the electrics or go constant-on.

Holsters for Glocks litter the landscape now, but definitely look at Blackhawk's CQC Serpa carbon-fiber locking holster. Superlight and maxi-tough, one touch in the right spot releases the pistol smoothly and easily, while yankin' all day won't budge it. And, they're now available in "other-than-black"! Fobus makes a line of winners, too, and Hoffner's Holsters offers great concealment rigs and possibly the best all-around magazine holders to be had--the Kydex Minimalist.
