Vacuuming Up Colt's Losses

Guns Magazine, April, 2000 by Massad Ayoob

Many view Colt's retiring from the general handgun market at this controversial time as a cowardly betrayal. Some gun owners are swearing to never buy that brand again. Other firms will fill the gap.

Springfield Armory, Kimber, ParaOrdnance and numerous others stand ready to sell 1911 pistols at prices similar to, or lower than, the originator. Taurus, S&W and Ruger will sell proportionally more baby .357s to people who would have bought Pocket Magnums. Kahr will sell more of their Micro size 9mm and .40 pistols to people who would have bought Pocket Nines. The gap will be filled. "Nature abhors a vacuum."
