.45 reloads

Guns Magazine, April, 2005 by Frank Moore

Here is some additional information for the "Q&A" on .45 ACP reloads in the Feb 2005 issue. I totally agree with the GUNS Staff on using the Lee Factory Crimp die. I use one myself. I have a suggestion on the part about flaring the case mouth. Lyman makes an "M" die in almost all calibers. This is an improved case-mouth flaring die. When adjusted it makes the top 1/16" of the case a few thousandths larger than bullet diameter for easy bullet (especially lead) starting. The next 1/16" is a few thousandths below bullet diameter to ensure gripping the bullet.

Since it makes two parallel sections one just above and one just below bullet diameter it doesn't excessively flare the case mouth making cases last longer because there is less working of the brass. Lyman also makes them for rifle cases, especially for starting lead bullets. They work well with plain base jacketed bullets as well, getting them started easily and straight. If you haven't tried one, "try one you'll like it."
