The cleaning solution

Guns Magazine, June, 2007 by Holt Bodinson

I've long been banished to the outdoors or the far corner of the garage for my gun cleaning chores. I don't complain. I understand. It's smelly, messy work. At least, when I'm working outdoors, I can leave the patches lying on the ground for a few days--that is, until the wind kicks up and there are Pro-Shot patches blown about into every corner of the lot and left hanging like Christmas tree ornaments on every ornamental shrub in the yard. I'm not fastidious, but she is.

Birchwood Casey came to my rescue this year with a new product labeled the "Residue Collector Bags." How life has changed.

The "Residue Collector Bag" is simply a large, disposable plastic bag with an integral rubber-band-induced constriction at one end. You simply slide the bag over the muzzle or breech end of a barrel and let it collect all your dirty patches, cleaning solvent splatter and other gunk. When you're finished cleaning, you simply pull off the bag, throw it in the garbage, and wipe down the portion of the barrel inside the bag.

The "Residue Bag" works like a charm. It might even be my pass back into the house on a cold winter afternoon. I'll let you know.
