XD custom

Guns Magazine, July, 2008 by Clint Smith

It's no mystery l am taken with the Springfield XD. It has proven to be a stout defensive handgun and the sales of the newest .45 caliber versions are rocketing and without a doubt giving all the like polymer pistols a definite run for their money.

To add to the woes of the other guys, the Springfield people now have a Custom Shop doing some pretty trick work on an already functional piece of gear. Headed up by Dave Williams with Deb Else as the right hand gal, the shop is doing custom packages as well as individual specification work--yep, they'll build you a gun just the way you want it!

Should you not know what you want, the folks at the custom shop have a whole list of stuff that makes shopping for your "special" pistol really easy. The photo shows several full-size XD .45 ACP 5" pistols sporting custom finishes. As well, these examples have custom shop competition action jobs making for a very good triggers, especially for polymer pistols. All these custom pistols have Springfield National Match .45 caliber barrels topped off front and rear with a set of Trijicon night sights.

With the Custom Shop at Springfield in place and turning out high quality work it is a win-win for everybody. Those who know me know I am a 1911 and Smith & Wesson revolver kind of guy, but I'm starting to have a small stack of XD pistols around the place. If polymer is OK with you, especially in conjunction with a high-capacity steel magazine 45-caliber pistol, you owe it to yourself to look at the XD. If that's not enough and you want a "special" pistol, then you should contact the Springfield Custom Shop.
