Backyard fun?

Guns Magazine, August, 2008 by Bob Johnson

I am curious to just how knowledgeable some of your authors are? I am referring to the June Out of the Box article on True Backyard Fun. I totally understand the fun of shooting an air rifle but, where is Mr. Galan's backyard?

Every municipality I know of has city ordinances against shooting firearms, slingshots, cannons, arrows, and air rifles within city limits. Having your backyard in a rural area is only place this activity would be OK.

Air rifles, including this one, have enough velocity to injure people or pets neighboring this backyard. Start plinking with an air rifle next door to me and soon the city boys in blue will be issuing you a citation to replenish the municipal funds.

I believe any responsible author assumes the responsibility not to give any illusions about what is proper and/ or legal or acceptable concerning his subject matter. Come on guys, guns in general and us shooter/hunters receive enough flack without us thoughtlessly generating more negative feelings by acting stupid.

Jess Galan lives in the free world and is able to shoot Airsoft rifles and other airguns in his backyard. You are correct when you say it is illegal in many places, as it is here in my home in Los Angeles, California. It behooves us all to learn our local laws well before we do anything, no matter how innocuous it seems. Jeff John, editor
