Anti gun Steele?

Guns Magazine, August, 2009 by Larry Lane

In the May issue, David Codrea implied Mr. Steele was anti-gun. I called the NRA, they said he wasn't and he's speaking al the NRA's 138th Annual meeting. What's going on?

The truth is Michael Steele. an east toast Republican, has made public statements supporting limits on our right to keep and bear arms. In a Washington Post interview in October 2006, Steele was asked, "Should people have access to buy assault weapons?"

He said, "Society should draw lines. What do volt need an assault weapon for, if you're going hunting? That's overkill. But I don't think that means volt go to a total ban for those who want to use guns for skeet shooting or hunting or things like that."

Aside from the fact the Second Amendment has nothing to do with hunting or sport shooting, this looks like the same position as Barack Obama's. So you might call the NRA rep back and ask him what more a politician has to say to be considered "anti-gun," and why Mr. Steele would be given a place of honor at their meeting without unequivocally and publicly explaining himself.--David Codrea
