Certance LLC has announced the launch of the Certance CP 3100 data protection product family for small and mid-sized businesses (SMBs). The CP 3100 incorporates the same powerful features and functionality of disk-to-disk-to-tape (D2D2T).

The CP 3100 allows SMBs to backup and restore business-critical data quickly, simply, and reliably along with the ability to automatically migrate data to tape. It is aimed at providing the SMB community with a simple-to-operate, yet powerful, solution that meets their needs by combining the best attributes of both disk and tape into one.

Initial products in the CP 3100 family work with Certance DAT 72 and DDS-4 tape drives, as well as those from other manufacturers. This capability enables users to create their own D2D2T solution using their existing tape device investment without additional software requirements. The Certance CP 3100 configures itself to recognize and emulate the attached tape drive automatically, simplifying installation and configuration. The CP 3100 automatically migrates data stored on disk to tape for archiving, without intervention from the host or need for "cloning" software. This feature relieves many of the operating constraints faced by IT managers who have limited backup windows. In addition, the CP 3100 enables remote setup, management and monitoring via any Web browser to provide users with peace of mind.
