What 2004 didn't have: barn-burner new products. What it did have: new realism in its emphasis on the business of storage technology. There were plenty of cogent reasons why: the lack of simple, easy-to-use and effective storage management tools; the growing need to archive and access data; the folding of storage into the enterprise network; the coming together of storage and security in one discipline; and the onerous and confusing onset of regulatory compliance.
