Computer Technology Review, March, 2001

Prisa Networks, independent OEM supplier of network management software for Fibre SANs, plans to extend its VisualSAN Network Management Suite to support Systems Area Networks based on InfiniBand. Consisting of VisualSAN Network Manager and VisualSAN Performance Manager, the software automatically discovers. SAN devices and renders a SAN topology map showing device interconnects. Events are monitored, filtered, and correlated, and alerts are generated based on administrator-defined policies. IT administrators can monitor faults in real time, allowing them to address problems before service is disrupted. VisualSAN Performance Manager monitors real time performance of SANs and renders this data. in an intuitive visual format with alert generation. Data collected by Performance Manager is used for historical and trending analysis.

"InfiniBand Architecture enables integration of server-to-server and server-to-storage communications into one technology," said, Ted Chen, executive vice, president of Prisa Networks. "However, Fibre Channel will continue to be predominant for server-to-storage communications for years to come. For the foreseeable future, both InfiniBand and Fibre Channel will coexist, and Prisa's VisualSAN will provide integrated network management services across both technologies for Storage Area and System Area Networks."
