Getting In - Brief Article

Careers and Colleges, Sept, 2000

Today's college-bound juniors and seniors have it tough. With competition at a peak, more students are receiving rejections from their first-choice colleges and often their safety schools as well. Acceptance rates at some Ivy League institutions are at record lows--Harvard (10.9 percent), Columbia (13 percent), Brown (15 percent).

Because the applicant pool is more crowded than ever, you need to be as prepared as possible when you dive in. This issue will help you navigate the process and increase your odds of success. Of course, if you're applying to a school with a 100 percent admission rate such as Montana State University, Shawnee State University (Kansas), or Southeastern University (Washington, DC), you won't need this guide. But for the rest of you, read on. You may improve your chances of getting an acceptance letter in your mailbox.

Be sure to read our November! December issue, "How To Pay For College," also. In it, we'll tell you everything you need to know about financing your education.
