SCOOP: You don't have to be a soccer superstar to win this one! The Women's Sports Foundation kicks cash to girls who shine both on and off the field. This organization supports women in sports and fitness and offers two scholarships for senior girls. Check out their Web site and look for scholarships named for Linda Riddle (the late equestrian) and Mervyn's California (a West Coast department store).

CASH FOR ASTHMATICS

SCOOP: If you are an athlete who struggles with asthma, you might have the chance to win some cash for school. The Schering/Key "Will to Win" Asthma Athlete Scholarship is open to student athletes who have a superior academic record. Applications must include high school transcript, a letter of recommendation from a physical education director or coach, a statement from a physician describing the type of asthma and treatment, and a personal letter describing education and career goals.

$$$: $1,000 to $10,000

'TEEN ATHLETE OF THE YEAR

SCOOP: 'Teen Magazine is looking to reward the most outstanding female high school athlete. You are eligible to apply if you are in good academic standing and participate in an organized sport that is monitored by a public or private high school, community, or other league, club or reputable organization. You must also never have participated in a professional sport or received payment for participation in any sporting event.

Winners are chosen on the basis of academics, community service, and leadership in interscholastic sports.
