More Great Leather From Great Custom Holster Makers - Brief Article
American Handgunner, Nov-Dec, 1999 by John Taffin
Wrapping up my alphabetical list of sixgun leather makers, this issue starts with Thad Rybka and goes through Dennis Yoder. Other leather makers have been covered in the two previous issues.
Master holstermaker Thad Rybka manages to combine the best of the modem traditional with old west styling. TR's trademark is making the simplest, most compact rig possible to get the job done. All of his designs are totally functional without being overly bulky or heavy.
Rybka's ideas of totally comfortable and lightweight concealable rigs also carry over to his cowboy shooting holsters such as his floral carved Tom Three-persons style known as the Speed Scabbard or his rendition of the Slim Jim with matching belt.
The latter was made up at the request of Clint Smith of Thunder Ranch and carries Smith's SASS alias of John McClure. A pair of these with 7 1/2" Colt SAAs is easily concealable under a loose fitting coat.
For those who prefer to carry a single-action concealed, there is no better fashion to accomplish this than TR's inside-the-pants holster. Made of roughout leather so the holster itself will cling to the clothing, this rig also features a reinforced section to keep it open when the sixgun is drawn, thus allowing easy return to the leather with one hand.
