Heard It On The Grapevine - Brief Article

American Handgunner,  Sept-Oct, 1999  by Cameron Hopkins

Did you hear...

* That Kimber is on pace to sell close to 40,000 pistols for the year. That's double their '97 production and inching close to Colt's industry-leading production of 60,000 Government Models a year.

* That Brazil, the world's second largest handgun market after the U.S., is proposing a ban on civilian ownership of handguns.

* That sales of 1911 custom parts are dismal with leading suppliers such as Cylinder & Slide and Ed Brown Products reporting "very slow" business.

* That Blount was sold to merchant banker Lehman Brothers-- not Caterpillar as was suggested here last issue- in a $1.35 billion deal.

* That Colt is denying a rumor it will drop its AR-15 commercial sales, although the Hartford gunmaker is "allocating" its semiauto rifles to distributors.
