The laundry test - Handgun Leather

American Handgunner,  May, 2002  by Roy Huntington

When you put a wet cowhide holster in a plastic bag for about a week, it can get moldy. So can horsehide, but not as much. The washing machine test revealed the cowhide holster lost some of its tight fit but once dried out, was still serviceable.

Right out of the laundry, the horsehide won for fit, but by a narrow margin. So the moral is if you ever have to successfully endure a laundering and still keep your handgun handy, well, horsehide is the stuff for you. Also, if it happens to you, let us know and Mas Ayoob will write an "Ayoob Files" all about it.
