Let's play favorites - Tactical Advantage
American Handgunner, May, 2002 by Ken Hackathorn
My favorite DA autos and the ones I use most often are a couple of S&W Performance Center pistols put up by Tom Gordon. My favorite is a PC Model 5906 in 9mm and a Model 4506 CQB.
I have and use SIG P226 and P228 pistols that give very nice trigger pulls with the DA/SA transition. SIG pistols all seem to smooth up and give good trigger results with use.
I really like and recommend the now out-of-production P228 pistol. They make great self-defense pistols and offer, the best DA/SA pulls of any. SIG pistols that I have used.
Guns like the CZ-75 have been. famous for their excellent, smooth DA trigger pulls, and offer the owner the ability to carry their CZ in Condition One.
HK's USP has proven to be one of. the most accurate, and reliable pistols made. Quality with HK products is always tops, but the DA trigger pull on the USP has been less than impressive. HK now offers the USP LEM with a much better DA pull, but big news is the HK P2000 that offers unique and superb DA trigger action that has made, it a real hit with German and European police agencies. The P2000 is in many ways the answer to the problem of shooting a DA service pistol well.
Any way you shake it, the DA auto loader is here to stay. Just as the single action auto has its fans, there will be many who choose the DA auto even if it means that they' may have to five up some shooting precision in the name of safety. If you have the time or ability to shoot the DA pistol a lot, then you can reach a level of skill that is acceptable.
If you choose a DA pistol, make sure you can operate it effectively Learn to master the long heavy DA trigger so that you will be able to deal with the problem when it looks you square in the eye.
