American Handgunner, Jan-Feb, 2003
We give a hearty American Hand-gunner hand to Afghan President Hamid Karzai after suffering an assassination attempt in September 2002. Leaning out of his car to greet a young boy, a gunman approached Karzai's car and fired two rounds, narrowly missing the President. American bodyguards leapt from a nearby jeep and killed the suspect.
The President then returned to the Governor's guesthouse, where he was staying, and told the BBC's Lyse Doucet, "I'm fine. I expect things like this to happen." Now, if we could only get Karzai a Les Baer 1911 and teach him to use it, he might beat-out the bodyguards next time.
