Frankford Arsenal electronic 6" caliper

American Handgunner,  May-June, 2008  by Roy Huntington

If you do anything around guns and don't have at least a good dial caliper, it's like reloading without a good loading manual (or six)--silly, and maybe downright stupid. And even better than a dial job, is this affordable electronic caliper. It makes life easier since you don't have to squint through your cheap magnifying glasses you bought at the dime store to decipher the tiny numbers on that dial caliper. This one tells you your measurements in a bold LCD display. Besides, if you still use a dial caliper we'll laugh and point at you.

Frankford Arsenal's model can measure internal and external goodies like over-all cartridge length and inside the case mouth. Get it? It's accurate to within .001" which is smaller than matters in most cases, but good enough to let you know those chamber mouths on your new .45 Colt revolver aren't fight (can you say ".457", Oh no!"). Need to find out the "real" dimensions of those scrounged bullets you "think" are .308? Is that barrel 4.3" or 4.4"? Is that drill rod you are reaching for the right diameter to knock out that pin? You'd find out all this cool stuff with the push of a button if you had this handy goodie.

It comes with a decent case, has batteries included, can be changed from metric to SAE and you can set the zero at any measuring range. You can even hook it up to your computer or printer to keep track of your work, if you're smart enough to figure that out by yourself. I tracked the price at anywhere from a high of almost $45 to as low as about $25, so shop around some. Frankford Arsenal (Midway) lists it at $32.99 at the link below. Get one so we don't point and stare.
