AOL@SCHOOL has launched
Internet Strategies for Education Markets: The Heller Report, June, 2000
AOL@SCHOOL first profiled in the December, 1999 issue of ISEM, has officially launched. As planned, it includes an aggregation of age-appropriate content, e-mail, instant messaging, and chat capabilities, and separate portals for teachers and administrators. Content partners include Scholastic Inc., Pearson PLC, and Harcourt General.
The most notable change has been the appointment of Terry Crane as AOL's vp for education products. Crane was previously president of Compass Learning, which changed its name from Jostens Learning Corp in January.
AOL@SCHOOL also now includes tools from Blackboard, Inc. AOL@SCHOOL users will have instant access to a customized, co-branded version of Blackboard.com, enabling them to create and take courses. America Online, Inc. recently joined Dell Computer Corp. and Pearson, Inc. in a $30 million funding round for Blackboard, Inc.
