Jeanne Hayes Hall of Fame inductee

Internet Strategies for Education Markets: The Heller Report, Dec, 2002

Former baseball player Mike Greenwell, the left field heir to Ted Williams and Carl Yastrzemski, once misspoke to a Boston TV reporter, saying he was hoped to be 'abducted' into the Baseball Hall of Fame and follow in the hallowed footsteps of Yaz and the Splendid Splinter. It might have taken an abduction to get Greenie into Cooperstown, but getting into our industry's Hall of Fame was a line drive for Quality Education Data founder and president Jeanne Hayes. Hayes will be inducted into the Association of Education Publisher's (AEP) Hall of Fame this month at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City.

Hayes is being honored for the leadership role she's played in tracking, interpreting and presenting trends and information about the education market over the past two decades. Hayes founded Quality Education Data (QED, Denver, CO, www.qeddata.com in 1981 to provide high quality market research for the education industry. QED has published its industry 'barometer' reports Internet Usage in Public Schools and Technology Purchasing Forecast since 1987. Hayes has presented education market research findings to a wide audience, including the U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee, and her research has been cited in Congressional studies and numerous publications.

"I feel like I've hit a home run without even swinging the bat," Hayes says. "I am honored by this recognition by the industry I hold in such high regard."

A former teacher, Hayes understands the way the industry works from both sides of the fence, so to speak. She has played a key role in developing the education industry, and is a frequent speaker on panels around the country. Hayes is on the board of the Software Information Initiative Association's (SIIA) e-business section, and was a founding member of the CEO Forum on Education and Technology. She has also served as a corporate board member and treasurer of the Consortium for School Networking (CoSN), and has been awarded with the CoSN Private Sector champion 2001 Award, eSchool News' Impact 30 of 2001, and was part of Converge Magazine's 'Those Who Make a Difference 2000' list.

If you'd like to drop a congratulatory note to Jeanne, she can be reached at jahyes@qeddata.com.
