Antihistamine approved - Product Marketplace - Palgic from Pamlab L.L.C - Brief Article

Ear, Nose & Throat Journal, Dec, 2003

Pamlab, LLC, has launched Palgic[R], a new prescription antihistamine featuring carbinoxamine maleate. Palgic is indicated for the treatment of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis and vasomotor rhinitis.

In a placebo-controlled study involving 296 patients, carbinoxamine maleate 4 mg (Palgic) was found to be an effective single-agent antihistamine with a low side-effect profile. The most common side effect was mild sedation, reported by 14 of the patients. Patients found that the somnolence effect disappeared after two to three days of continuous use. 87% of the patients in the study found the 4-mg dose to be optimal in relieving their allergy symptoms. Palgic is no more sedating than some of the other major antihistamine brands. The recommended dose of Palgic is 4 mg prn for adults and 2 mg prn for children (ages 1 to 6 years). For patients with severe allergies, dosing may be increased to a maximum of 24 rag/day for adults (given in divided doses 6 to 8 hours apart). Maximum dosing for children is 0.4 mg/kg/day.

Palgic is available in 4-mg tablets or as an oral solution of 4 mg/5 ml. The liquid is clear, colorless, and has a bubble gum flavor and aroma.
