Malleus notch prosthesis

Ear, Nose & Throat Journal, March, 2007

With the development of this product, KURZ responds to surgeons' requests for a titanium prosthesis that combines the favored open de sign of the headplate with a notch for placement under the malleus: the MNP--Malleus Notch Prosthesis.

The malleus is often preserved in ears with chronic otitis media, and some surgeons like to have the option of placing the ossicular prosthesis under the malleus. The Total and Partial MNPs were developed to combine the benefit of an open headplate with a notch to cradle the malleus.

Comparing the user-friendliness of the MNP with conventional HA notched implants, most surgeons in a study at the Ipswich Hospital NHS Trust, UK, preferred the open design of the titanium headplate. It provides a better view of the bottom end of the shaft and facilitates prosthesis manipulation with microinstruments.
