Improved cartilage knife

Ear, Nose & Throat Journal, July, 2007

The KU RZ [R] Precise Cartilage Knife simplifies cutting of cartilage grafts of the defined thicknesses (0.1 to 0.7 mm) usually needed for plastic repair of tympanic membrane defects, covering middle ear implants, or reconstructing the posterior auditory canal wall. This device slices both tragus and concha cartilage with one cut.

The accessory distance plates, which are used to reduce the standard cartilage thickness of 0.7 mm to a minimum of 0.1 mm, are now perforated, making the cutting process easier. The perforations provide greater friction because the cartilage is pressed into the holes, keeping the cartilage in a stable position and reducing the risk of slipping.

The sterile, single-use blades now include imprints to determine the minimum size of the cartilage graft used to cover KURZ middle ear implants. In keeping with the headplate design of the KURZ middle ear prostheses, the imprints are oval and round.

The KURZ Precise Cartilage Knife comes complete in a sterilization tray with blade holder, cutting block, distance plates, and sterile blades.
