NEC Begins Output of LAN Controller

Computergram International, April 13, 1999

NEC has begun sampling its newest LAN controller, an 8-port 10/100Mbps whose chief distinction is a large capacity FIFO (first-in, first-out ) processor which enables each port to store a whole 1518 byte Ethernet packet. The on-board FIFO is claimed to reduce packet loss, and improve overall throughput. Volume production is expected in August.
