Stamps.Com to Feature on Microsoft Web Site

Computergram International, August 24, 1999

Stamps.com Inc, which recently got the green light from the US Postal Service to start offering its internet-based postage system nationwide, has inked a deal with Microsoft Corp to offer its service from the Microsoft Office update site, which provides software updates for Microsoft's Office software suite. The news was good for a 14.3% rise in Stamp.com's stock yesterday, closing up $4.375 to close at $35.00.

Stamps.com plans to go live on September 27. The company, like its rival E-Stamp Inc, sells postage on behalf of the USPS and takes around 10% of the value itself. Microsoft had already partnered with both companies to enable users of Microsoft Word to print the postage value directly onto envelopes from Word.
