Industry: Email Alert RSS FeedSGI Gives O2 a Lift With QED RISC

Silicon Graphics Inc will this week offer Quantum Effect Devices Inc's 300MHz RM5200 MIPS RISC in its O2 Unix workstations. The R5000-generation QED part is said to offer 69% better compute and 59% better graphics than the O2's current 200MHz R5000 CPU. O2 machines with the QED chip are priced the same as the 200MHz models at $7,500 with twice the memory at 128Mb.
