UK Post Office to Launch E-commerce Service

Computergram International, March 16, 1999

The UK Post Office will today announce details of its Trusted Third Party e-commerce service, which hopes to provide a secure internet-based alternative to paper-based mail. The announcement will come a week after the UK government ditched its key escrow policy, in which encryption keys would be given to security agencies (CI No 3,613).

The Post Office had expressed caution earlier this month that key escrow could damage the country's e-commerce potential in the global market.
