Computergram International, March 30, 1999

VLSI Technology Inc says its won its largest-ever single order - $34m from Samsung Electric Co for GSM chipsets - for use in current and future phone handsets. The majority of the order will be delivered in the third quarter of this year. VLSI and Samsung have been working together for three years, and Samsung's SHG-600 handset, launched in October last year, uses VLSI silicon.

The new SHG-800 and 2100 models launched earlier this month at Cebit also use VLSI's OneC GSM chips, and Samsung says new models are under development.
