Gates - Neither DoJ Nor IBM Can Slow Pace of the PC

Computergram International, March 30, 1999

Bill Gates has claimed that Microsoft Corp's ongoing antitrust trial will not slow the development of new products by the company. Gates, talking during a visit to London to promote his new book, said the company always looked to resolve any dispute it was in. Microsoft is due to start negotiations with the Department of Justice this week to try and reach a settlement to the trial proceedings.

Gates also hit back at comments by IBM Corp's CEO Louis Gerstner last week that the PC was "dead". Gates, who, along with Gerstner, is one of the fathers of the modern desktop computer, said that the penetration of the personal computer was still at an early stage.
