Japanese giants turn to Taiwan for LCD displays

Japanese electronics companies, which produce about 70% of the world's liguid crystal displays are now looking to cooperate with Taiwan in order to stay competitive, a leading business newspaper in Japan reported. Fujitsu Ltd recently ordered from Taiwan's Chi Mei Optoelectronics Corp an as-yet-unspecified number of TFT LCDs.

Chi Mei is building Taiwan's largest LCD plant. Several other partnerships are being discussed.
