W3C Releases Working Drafts for XML Schema Specification

Computergram International, May 7, 1999

The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) has released the first public working drafts of the XML Schema Specification. The spec proposes ways of associating datatypes with XML element types and attributes. This should let XML software do a better job of managing dates, numbers and other information types, the W3C said.

Part 2 of the spec proposes methods for describing the structure and constraining the contents of XML documents. The drafts build on earlier work submitted to the W3C by vendor and user organizations. The W3C says the specs are the first step towards the creation of a vendor-neutral format for defining the rules that govern particular types of data.
