Sabre Rumored to be Considering Travelocity Spinoff

Computergram International, April 23, 1999

Sabre Group Holdings Inc has admitted that it is considering spinning off its internet booking system, Travelocity.com. Sabre is 82% owned by AMR Corp, parent of American Airlines. In the past, it has downplayed rumors of a Travelocity spinoff, arguing that the web site is central to its business strategy. But the market's appetite for internet stocks may have changed all that.

"In light of the need to fund the dramatic growth in this business and the desire to partner with other e-commerce companies, we continue to evaluate the attractiveness of various capital structures for this division," said chairman and CEO Michael Durham in a statement.
