Computergram International, May 6, 1999

Microsoft Corp has now released to manufacturing the Windows 98 Second Edition upgrades. New PCs will include the edition, which will have a retail price of $89, and existing Windows 98 users will be able to order a CD from the Microsoft website for $19.95. It adds support for home networking, Internet Explorer 5, Internet Connection Sharing, and advanced hardware support and should be generally available in the fall.

Microsoft says it still plans to release Windows 98 Service Pack 1 in the next month or so, which will be available for free download from the Windows Update site. Service Pack 1 includes the Windows 98 Year 2000 update, Internet Explorer 4.01 Service Pack 2, and addresses "other top product service & support issues" according to Microsoft. Second Edition will also include SP1.

Service Pack 5 for Windows NT 4.0 was released yesterday for immediate availability, and includes cluster service updates, an updated reservation management with DHCP servers and an improved updating of MTS files. It also has the latest Year 2000 updates.
