French Retailer PPR to Buy into US With MobilePlanet

Computergram International, May 24, 1999

Pinault Printemps Redoute SA (PPR) is looking to move into one of the hottest online markets in the US by acquiring MobilePlanet Inc, an online reseller of software for mobile computers. The French retail company has not revealed the value of the deal. MobilePlanet expects to post revenues of $20m this year.

The deal is part of PPR's efforts to expand its range of online sales activities. The market for mobile computing devices is expected to explode over the next five years, with some analysts predicting that sales of handheld devices could start to outstrip the traditional PC market.
