Web-based guide network About.com Inc, formerly known as MiningCo.com Inc, has formed an alliance with online bookseller Borders.com, that will see the two build individual co-branded bookstores across all of About.com's topic-specific sites - covering roughly 17,00 subjects. In addition, Borders.com will have access to About.com's content, including book reviews and feature articles.

Borders also gets prominent ad placement throughout the About.com properties. About.com will take in advertising revenue for promoting Borders and e-commerce revenues based on sales at the co-branded stores. No further details of the deal were disclosed. Separately, Borders Group Inc said Borders.com first-quarter sales increased 23.1% sequentially to $3.2m.
