SCO to Release System Activity Reporter as Open Source

Computergram International, June 15, 1999

As expected (CI No 3,672), the Santa Cruz Operation has announced plans to release the source code to its System Activity Reporter (SAR) software under the Mozilla Public License (MPL). SAR is currently used to retrieve data for administering the UnixWare 7 System V release 5 kernel. When it's open, SCO says, SAR could help standardize kernel administration across operating systems.

SCO intends to work with Starnix Inc to port SAR to Linux and to various flavors of BSD. As soon as that's done, SCO intends to rename the utility OpenSAR and coordinate its release under the MPL.
