Philips to Launch MP3/SDMI Audio Player in 2000

Computergram International, August 10, 1999

Audio pioneer Philips Electronics NV is planning to dip a toe in MP3 waters, saying that it will release an audio that supports the controversial audio compression format in 2000. The Dutch electronics company is hedging its bets with the player and says that it will also be compatible with the rival secure digital music initiative (SDMI) format.

The player will have enough storage on a removable Flash card to play back one hour of CD- quality music.
