Sega to Bundle Set-Top Boxes With New Games Console

Computergram International, August 13, 1999

British Sky Broadcasting Plc has agreed to bundle set-top boxes with Sega Electronics Ltd's 128-bit Dreamcast games console when it is launched in Europe on September 23. The agreement embraces an additional online and newspaper-based marketing campaign on top of the $60m Europe-wide marketing campaign earmarked by Sega for Dreamcast.

The Dreamcast console will retail in the UK at 199 pounds ($320.43) and features a 33Kbps modem in Europe (although US models will support a 56Kbps device) for internet access and is upgradable for online gaming between two remote players over an internet portal web site .

An additional licensing agreement between the partners includes marketing on each other's web sites and the development of a football game incorporating features from Sky's TV coverage of UK football, expected to be available early next year.
