Pick Supports More Linux Variants With Latest Version of D3

Computergram International, August 17, 1999

Pick Systems Inc, which once had operating system aspirations of its own, has released a new version of the Pick database for Linux, D3 Linux version 7.2. The new release extends support for multi-processing systems and RAID configurations to Red Hat 6.0 and the Linux Mandrake 6.0 distributions. Previously it only ran on Linux-based hardware servers from VA Research Inc. Pricing for D3 Linux v. 7.2 is $1,100 per server and $330 per additional user, available immediately. The Irvine, California-based company has also released its component database server appliance, D3 ProPlus v 7.2 for Red Hat and Mandrake.

Pick says it has sold one of the largest corporate financial Linux set-ups to date using the new versions of D3, to insurance intermediary Hill House Hammond in the UK. It will run 252 D3 Linux DBMS servers for its branch offices, using Pick's FlashConnect web-enabling software running on IBM Netfinity 3000 Intel-based servers with Red Hat Linux. The AIX version of D3 is used for a back-end database at head office in Bristol, running on a five node IBM RS/6000 SP. Over twenty branch systems have been installed so far.
