SPEC Updates Web Server Performance Measure

Computergram International, August 17, 1999

The Standard Performance Evaluation Corp has updated its benchmark for measuring the performance of web servers. SPECweb99 replaces SPECweb96 and supports HTTP 1.0 and 1.1 and its workload simulates access to a web service provider supporting home pages for a number of different organizations. The SPECweb99 metric reports the number of simultaneous connections that can be supported.

The only two results published so far are a Compaq Alphaserver DS10 (its Web brick) running Zeus 3.1.9 HTTP which achieved 484 SPECweb99. An IBM RS/6000 43-P 260 running Zeus 3.1.8 came in at 440.
