Computergram International, June 15, 1998
After a 12-month, 100-contributor development effort, Apache has made release 1.3 of its free HTTP server available for immediate download from Apache.org. The new release features dynamic shared objects (DSO) support, more reliable piped logs and a reorganization of source files. Version 1.3 is said to be the most stable release of the Apache HTTP Server so far.

The software also supports Windows NT and Windows 95, although this support is experimental and the site authors warn that Win32 variants of Apache are not as stable as their Unix counterparts. One of the great open source success stories, Apache boasts greater market share than all its commercial rivals combined. Netcraft's statistics for May 1998 (http://www.netcraft.com/Survey/) show that Apache and its derivatives account for more than half of all servers now on the world wide web.
