Latest cabling products: fusion splicer

Communications News, Nov, 2001

DESIGNED FOR OUTSIDE PLANT AND FACTORY ENVIRONMENTS, the Type-37 fusion splicer includes the microcore alignment and Micro-Core Alignment FH. It features a small footprint of 150 mm-x-150 mm, an average splicing time of 18 seconds or less, an average splice loss of 0.02 dB, and a 75-second reinforcement sleeve heater cycle time. Works with all fiber types for fully automatic, low-loss optical fiber splices. Each splicer uses a high-resolution, direct core-monitoring image processing software to align core fibers and estimate splice loss. The FH product has detachable fiber holders that allow the operator to move fiber from the jacket remover to the cleaver, and into the splicer without physically touching the fiber-facilitating standardization of fiber preparation and ease of use, and decreasing the risk of fiber damage. --Sumitomo Electric Lightwave
