Extend networks - Optical testing and conversion

Communications News, Nov, 2002

Eliminate the need for duplex fiber when extending networks. The WDM Media Converters are compact copper-to-single-strand fiber Fast Ethernet media converters. The stand-alone converters are fully compliant with the IEEE 802.3/802.3u standards and able to extend a copper-based network via optical fiber to a maximum distance of up to 20 km. When the plug-and-play technology is deployed in pairs, with the host site multiplexing 1310 nm and 1550 nm, only a single fiber strand is required for bidirectional communication. --Puredata
