INS (International Network Services) was founded in 1991 as a network-consulting firm, and by 1997 had become one of the fastest growing high-tech firms in Silicon Valley. In 1999, INS was acquired by Lucent Technologies, which spun off the core INS business as a privately held, vendor-independent firm in 2002 to assist companies in building, securing and managing their business-critical IT infrastructures. Today, INS end-to-end consulting solutions span IT strategy and planning, IT wire line and wireless infrastructures, security, network and systems management, operating systems, directory services, storage systems and services, and project management.

CEO and President David Butze joined INS in 1995 as vice president of western operations. He was promoted to vice president of worldwide field operations in 1997 and to COO in 1999. Following the Lucent acquisition, he was promoted to president of Lucent NPS and subsequently president of Lucent enhanced services and sales. He became CEO of INS in 2002. INS is headquartered in Santa Clara, Calif.. and has 34 offices across the United States and Europe.
